The Ribera Povisa hospital has organized a round table, especially aimed at healthcare professionals, on the human papillomavirus, addressing both the latest developments in treatment as well as its prevention and screening.
The round table discussion, held in the auditorium of the Ribera Povisa Hospital, was attended by more than 50 professionals. Dr. Diana López Freire, a gynecologist in the Women's Health Department of the hospital, acted as moderator.
Genetics specialist Alfonso Alba Menéndez led the first part of the session, explaining the mechanisms and dynamics of HPV infection and, from a practical point of view, how to understand and evaluate the results of detection tests.
Next, Dr. Jesús de la Fuente Valero, gynecologist at the Infanta Leonor Hospital in Madrid and President of the Spanish Association of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy, focused on primary prevention and population screening for cervical cancer, explaining the vaccination options for adults and how to resolve the most common questions that patients have when they come to the clinic.
The session concluded with a discussion where attendees addressed the new realities of cervical pathology consultations since the implementation of population-based cervical cancer screening and the benefits of vaccination for women over 45 and their partners. It is worth noting that cervical cancer can be prevented with vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV).
