Algunos trabajos previos hab\u00edan confirmado las virtudes de la manzana en la\u00a0<strong>prevenci\u00f3n de las enfermedades coronarias<\/strong>\u00a0y el\u00a0<strong>c\u00e1ncer<\/strong>, as\u00ed como en la mejora de la tasa de glucosa en la\u00a0<strong>diabetes tipo 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"seccion-texto\">Ahora, investigadores de la\u00a0<strong>Universidad de Florida<\/strong>, en Estados Unidos, han realizado un nuevo estudio con 160 mujeres posmenop\u00e1usicas de entre 45 y 65 a\u00f1os. La mitad de ellas, tras haber ingerido una manzana al d\u00eda, al cabo de un a\u00f1o hab\u00edan reducido en un 23% el\u00a0<strong>colesterol\u00a0<abbr title=\"Lipoproteinas de baja densidad\">LDL<\/abbr><\/strong>\u00a0(colesterol \u00abmalo\u00bb) y aumentado en un 4% el\u00a0<strong>colesterol\u00a0<abbr title=\"Lipoproteinas de alta densidad\">HDL<\/abbr><\/strong>\u00a0(colesterol \u00abbueno\u00bb).<\/p>\n<p class=\"seccion-texto\">Adem\u00e1s, lejos de que este mayor consumo de calor\u00edas provocara una subida de peso, las mujeres que comieron esa manzana diaria perdieron una media de casi 1.500 gramos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"seccion-texto\">La investigaci\u00f3n certifica el\u00a0<strong>poder protector de la manzana en la aterosclerosis<\/strong>, fundamentalmente por su composici\u00f3n rica en\u00a0<strong>pectina<\/strong>, una sustancia con propiedades favorables en el metabolismo del colesterol. Por si esto fuera poco, las pacientes que consumieron manzanas experimentaron un descenso en los niveles de la\u00a0<strong>prote\u00edna C reactiva<\/strong>, un marcador de inflamaci\u00f3n e inestabilidad de la placa de ateroma.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"seccion-titulo-3\">Mandarinas que combaten la aterosclerosis<\/h3>\n<p class=\"seccion-texto\">Por otra parte, investigadores de la\u00a0<strong>Universidad de Ontario Occidental<\/strong>, en Canad\u00e1, han descubierto en las mandarinas una sustancia denominada\u00a0<strong>nobiletina<\/strong>.
